The iphone has a new target market in sight… gamers! The announcement earlier this week that gameloft the worlds largest game retailer has committed to producing games for the iphone throughout 2008. Gamers are seen as the last corner of the market, with no company really standing out as a market leader in this field.
It’s funny but we are back to the convergence issue once again. Where digital cameras in phones are now at a point where you could leave your standalone device at home when you go on a night out, it seems that gaming hasn’t quite made it yet. Nokia has tried it with the Ngage and more recently the N81, but neither have really set the gaming world on fire. If you look at the Sony PSP, it does one thing and one thing well, sadly it seems that mobile phones are some way off from offering the convergence that we have seen in other areas
