The Tocco Quick Tap is at first glance a rather nondescript affordable touchscreen device that doesn´t look a whole lot different to the earlier Tocco Lite released by Samsung back in 2009. Indeed, the features on board are not much to shout about with basic multimedia support, an unimpressive camera and connectivity options limited to GPRS and EDGE. However, rather than being consigned to the dustbin of forgotten affordable smartphones released over the years the Tocco Quick Tap is going to make a name for itself by being the first phone to implement mobile payments through Near Field......

The Atlanta is another addition to Orange´s increasing range of phones named after cities. The earlier San Francisco was a fantastic feature filled smartphone that brought Android into the lower price bracket and posed a threat to other mid-range Androids doing the rounds. The Atlanta does not come with a touchscreen like the San Fran and it is a fairly basic handset.   The phone opts for a traditional candybar style with an alpha-numeric keypad and a small TFT screen above it. The phone comes with predictive text input which is great for the messaging options included on this p......

Sony Ericsson Xperia mini pro reviewed by Simon Drew | 11th May 2011   After the launch of the Xperia X10 in 2010 Sony Ericsson decided to release two mini versions as well. The Xperia X10 Mini and Xperia X10 Mini Pro, as they were known, provided a smaller alternative to the X10 flagship with the option of having a sliding keyboard. Roll on one year and Sony Ericsson have decided to update these phones with the latest developments in hardware and software although they have dropped the X10 moniker and simply named them the Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro. The two phones are very simi......

Sony Ericsson Xperia mini reviewed by Simon Drew | 11th May 2011   The Xperia Mini is marketed by Sony Ericsson as the world´s smallest Android powered HD smartphone. Launched alongside a similar QWERTY Xperia Mini Pro, the Mini features HD video recording and playback as well as a wealth of other entertainment features included with the latest Android Gingerbread system in use.   Screen   The Xperia Mini is a small phone and truly deserving of the ´mini´ moniker (unlike some not-so-mini handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy S2 Mini). The 3" LED back......

BlackBerry Bold 9900 reviewed by Simon Drew | 10th May 2011   RIM are the company that produce BlackBerry phones and aside from a few deviations here and there they have typically stuck to a rather formulaic phone design, with a smaller screen above a condensed QWERTY keypad. This is a design that has often been imitated by other manufacturers but one that the majority of people will instinctively associated with the Canadian company. RIM have ventured into full touchscreen territory with phones like the BlackBerry Storm although the SurePress screen technology that was employed in th......

Sony Ericsson W8 Walkman reviewed by Simon Drew | 10th May 2011   One of the benefits of the partnership between Sony and Ericsson is that they have each been able to bring their own expertise together in their mobile phones for greater effect. While Ericsson has a long tradition of producing mobile phones and communications devices, Sony has an equally strong background in the world of personal entertainment and particularly musical entertainment.   Sony were the company that first pioneered portable entertainment with the Walkman in the late 1970s and also pushed music firmly......

While some people had presumed that the Desire S was to be HTC´s replacement for the 2010 smash hit Desire smartphone, it turned out that the Sensation was to be the company´s flagship device for 2011. The Sensation marks the introduction of some of the latest technological developments into HTC´s highly popular range of Android phones and at the time of its release is only really rivalled in terms of features by the equally impressive Samsung Galaxy S2.   Screen and Entertainment   The Sensation is a larger phone than the earlier Desire and more closely......

Samsung Corby II Review   LG started it all off with the release of the KP500 Cookie which was supposed to provide a cheaper touchscreen device with limited features so that more people could join in with the (then) new touchscreen technology that was doing the rounds. The Cookie went one to become a surprise success selling millions of copies, even outperforming many of the top range phones of its day. The Tocco, Tocco Lite and later Corby/Genio range of phones were Samsung´s effort to capitalise on this growing market for affordable touchscreen phones.   The original Co......

Nokia X1-00 Review   The X1-00 is one of the cheapest phones ever to be produced by Nokia and while its feature list is fairly empty it does come with some great music support. At such a cheap price this marks the X1-00 out as a phone of choice for people on a budget who still want some degree of entertainment on their phone and also makes the X1-00 one of the cheapest music phones on offer.   It should be pointed out that, music aside, the X1-00 does not come with many features. This is a basic handset with no camera, web access or other frills and is limited to 2G GSM voice c......

Samsung Galaxy Pro Review   The Galaxy Pro is a messaging phone from Samsung that follows in the footsteps of many of BlackBerry´s iconic handsets. Featuring a 2.8" touch sensitive TFT screen, the Galaxy Pro also comes with a QWERTY keypad that is excellent for typing out all sorts of messages including SMS (with threaded viewing), email, instant messaging and through social networks like Facebook and Twitter.   These social networks are integrated into the Google operating system on board (Android 2.2 Froyo), and the Galaxy Pro also comes with support for MMS messag......
