first feature length mobile phone film

November 25th, 2008 by Best Mobile Contracts

Screened at the Camden Roundhouse on the 22nd of October, “Shoot the summer” was the first ever feature length film to be shot using entierly a mobile phone. This film is a documenterary of 7 different music festivals during the summer of 2008. This includes Creamfileds (Liverpool), Bestival (Isle of Wight), Notting Hill Carnival (London), Summer Sundae (Leicester) and many many more. Hugh Garry, a creative producer for Radio 1 was the brains behind this film. A perfect description of this one hour long film is the first sentence that can be seem on the first part of the film in the video below; “Producter High Garry spent the summer of 2008 touring festivals with a bag full of mobile phones”.

The phone selected for the filiming was the origional Nokia N95. This N-series phone has some pretty impressive video specs: enabling 30 frames per second, Carl Zeiss optics and 640 by 480 pixels resolution. (For more details see Nokia N95 reviews and Nokia N95 video reviews). Using the Nokia N95 for such a project, your really cant go wrong.

The brief to the audience, artists and DJs who where lucky enough to take part in the filming of this amazing film was “film whatever you want”. In order to keep some kind of control of the content, Garry shoot some footage himself as well as passing the phone on the selected band members and festival goers. This seems a little risky, however this risk seems to have paid off.

Anyhow, without any further delay, check out the video below:
