Samsung help to save the earth with the Blue Earth

February 13th, 2009 by Best Mobile Contracts

Samsung-Blue-EarthWith global warming being a huge topic at the moment, it looks like Samsung has a conscious or are trying to cash in on all the hype. Samsung have announced (the first we think) solar powered mobile phone, the Samsung Blue Earth. There are a number of ways in which this innovative mobile phone is trying to do things differently:

  1. Solar panel on the back of the phone which provides extra charge. This is all good and well as long as the back of the phone is in direct sun light. In the UK, this is not going to be the case for a large proportion of the day!
  2. Energy efficient charger
  3. Hardware is built without harmful substances that can impact on the environment if the phone is discarded. This includes Phthalate, Beryllium and Brominated Flame Retardants.
  4. Eco Mode functionality enables the brightness of the screen and backlight to be adjusted in order to same energy.
  5. Outer case of the Samsung Blue Earth is made from recycled plastic bottles.(same as the new Motorola W233 Renew eco-friendly phone)
  6. Unique interface that will let the user know how many trees has been saved by walking instead of driving.

All in all, it looks like Samsung are trying to cash in on the global warming boom. However, if we could get a proportion of the above techniques implemented throughout the mobile phone industry this would not be a bad thing.

No details as of yet are available on the price or features that will be available with this mobile. Im sure there will more details available in the Mobile World Congress next week including reviews and exclusive Samsung Blue Earth videos.
