Samsung Tocco Lite S5230: A Sneak Peek

June 12th, 2009 by Best Mobile Contracts
Tocco-LiteReleased last April, the Samsung S5230 (aka Samsung Tocco Lite) has a retail value of around £200. Together with the Samsung S5600, the S5230 is one of the cheapest touch screen Smartphones available in the market today. The S5230 is light and compact, weighing a mere 93 grams and having dimensions of 104 x 53 x 11.9 mm. It has a 3-inch screen with a 256K-color display and is also equipped with an accelerometer sensor for the auto-rotate function. The biggest downside of this Smartphone is that it does not support 3G technology and will only work in the 2G network (GSM 850/900/1800/1900). Although it is GPRS, EDGE, and Bluetooth-capable, the Samsung S5230 doesn’t have HSCSD and WLAN support either.

Multimedia
The S5230’s camera is mediocre: 3-Megapixels (2048 x 1536 pixels) with a unique smile detection feature. It is also capable of taking QVGA videos at 15fps. The Picture Album feature of the S5230 is a distinctive and clever way of displaying your precious photos.

Aside from an RDS-capable FM radio the S5230 is equipped with a music player that will play most music formats. The internal memory is a mere 50MB, but you can improve it to as much as 8GB through an external microSD memory card. The sound quality may not be as good as that of a Sony Ericsson Walkman Phone (w.g. W395), but it is good enough as the loudspeaker makes use of a Digital Natural Sound Engine (DNSe).

Features and Applications

Expect to see the typical Smartphone applications on the Samsung S5230 such as an organizer and Email support. Aside from hand recognition software, the Samsung S5230 also has a unique feature named Screen Gesture Lock. This feature will allow you to unlock the phone by sketching a letter on the screen. Depending on the letter, it will automatically bring you to a pre-assigned application of your choice.
