Nokia Surge coming to Europe

July 23rd, 2009 by Simon

Nokia-6760-Slide_42329_1Nokia had been receiving criticism for focusing their attention on Europe and virtually ignoring the North American market. The Finnish phone manufacturer tried to counteract these claims by releasing one of their latest models, the Surge, in North America first. The Surge has proven to be quite popular in the USA and is now making its way to Europe, although with a name change. Once released in Europe it will be known simply as the 6760 Slide.

The Surge is focused on messaging and people who frequent social networking sites and has many features designed for these purposes. The Surge can connect to most email services and Exchange, as well as Windows Live Messenger. There are special apps for Twitter and Facebook and support for Google Talk. These features are proving very popular in the US, despite the Surge receiving some mild criticism for its unconventional looks.

The 6760 Slide features a 2.4” QVGA screen than can be tilted between portrait and landscape and there is GPS support. The 6760 Slide uses 3.5G supports Bluetooth and has a maximum 8GB microSD slot. While branded as the Surge in the US the phone featured a 2 megapixel camera but this is being upgraded to 3.2 megapixels outside the US with the unbranded 6760 Slide. The phone slides to the side revealing a full QWERTY keyboard for easier typing of messages and for using services like MS Messenger.

The 6760 Slide should be released in Europe shortly and although its unconventional looks may not be to everyone’s liking the phone will also be released in red and white colours following the initial black release.
