The latest candybar mobile phone from Nokia is the Nokia 2730 Classic and in pricing alone – it will retail at £70 – it is evident this device is being offered to the lower end of the market. Now you’re probably wondering what compromises Nokia has had to make when it came to features. Well, none, really.Nokia developed this device with the emerging markets in mind and for a supposedly low-end phone it is a rather complete tool. First off, it is 3G enabled and equipped with a full web browser so you know you’ll get high speed Internet connection. It has the Flash Lite 2.0 application so that viewing of web pages is highly optimized. The Java MIDP 2.0 application enhances interface and multimedia capabilities.
Nokia Life Tools and Ovi Services are incorporated into this phone which certainly makes connectivity more accessible to consumers from developing countries. Nokia Life Tools first emerged as a pilot project in India and because it has since enjoyed considerable reception, Nokia is now promoting it as a full scale service. Life Tools delivers agricultural and educational information into the hands of farmers and students living in far-away areas. The Ovi services available on the Nokia 2730 are Ovi Mail, Ovi Share and Ovi Contacts. All of these are designed to keep you connected to your network at a much simplified, more convenient process. Add to this the host of personal information management tools on this phone and your productivity is sure to soar.
If you happen to be a multimedia addict, the phone also provides several avenues for entertainment: music and video player, an FM stereo radio, a 2 megapixel camera plus pre-loaded games. Its 32MB internal memory is expandable up to 2GB via a microSD card slot.
The Nokia 2730 looks almost the same as two other classic models, the Nokia 2700 and Nokia 6700 although the 2700 doesn’t have 3G support.
