It seems to be a tradition for Sony Ericsson products to generate a lot of speculation on its forthcoming products being leaked online months before its official announcement. Remember the Jalou? After all those supposed leaked photos have been proven fake, the company now announces its launch by the last quarter of the year. It turns out to be a true fashion phone with gem-inspired color styles and a limited edition version dressed up by fashion house Dolce & Gabbana.
Another Fashion First
The Sony Ericsson Jalou sports a slim clamshell with a gem-like surface faceting on its face. It weighs a pocket and handbag-friendly 84 grams and no larger than 73 mm tall when folded. Its 2-inch QVGA screen doubles as a mirror that you can select from a key – rather unique for the stylish fashion market the mobile phone is targeted at. And it’s the first from Sony Ericsson to have the WalkMate pedometer that lets you know how many steps you’ve taken when taking a walk. The Jalou will be launched in three jewelry colors: Aquamarine Blue, Onyx Black and Deep Amethyst.
Sony Ericsson didn’t put leading edge specs as a priority for this fashion phone. But with a 3.2 megapixel camera, a browser with YouTube and social networking support, Bluetooth with A2DP, video recording, stereo FM radio with and a music player supporting all the popular audio and video codecs, it goes as far as any mobile phone in its class does. The Jalou is basically a quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and a triband UMTS with support for 3G/HSDPA high speed connectivity. Not bad for a fashion phone.
Dolce & Gabbana features
High fashion house Dolce & Gabbana will dress up a limited edition Jalou with 24k gold trimmings on a sparkling rose color handset. It will come specially packaged with a host of exclusive D&G items plus a special headset. Expect this to cost a lot. D&G will be sponsoring the Jalou on a separate advertising campaign expected to start in October. No word yet on the price of either editions.
