High Fashion in a Mobile Phone – the Sony Ericsson Jalou

September 13th, 2009 by Simon

Sony-Ericsson-JalouSony Ericsson ups the ante in fashion mobile phones with a clamshell handset recently released. A styling first for the Japanese mobile phone giant, the Sony Ericsson Jalou arrives together with the stunning Aino and Satio handsets due out towards the last quarter of the year.

Fashion Phone Features

The Jalou sports a clamshell form sculpted with gem-inspired facets. At a petite 73mm length when folded and weighing 84 grams, the ladies to whom it’s aimed at, might confuse this with their make-up compacts.  It will reach its market in three gem-inspired colors:  Aquamarine Blue, Deep Amethyst and Onyx Black.

Beneath all that fabulous look, the Jalou is a quad band GSM and Triband UMTS supporting 3G/HSDPA.  It supports Google apps, social networking sites, MS Exchange and NetFront internet browser with YouTube support.   There’s a trendy 3.2 megapixel camera with video light for video recording.  A media player, Bluetooth with A2DP and stereo FM radio with RDS caps its capable multimedia features.

A Few Firsts from Sony Ericsson

Along with a fresh user interface that changes with special events of the year and shows zodiac signs every month, you get two features considered to be the first in any Sony Ericsson handset.  This is the first Sony Ericsson handset to feature a step counter called WalkMate – great for walkathons and early morning jogging.

It has a mirror key that transforms its modest 2” QVGA LCD screen into a compact mirror – very useful when you suddenly have to check your face while working on the phone.

Dolce & Gabbana Dresses It Up

It’s a fashion phone to start with. But fashion house D&G gets into an alliance with Sony Ericsson to push it as a high fashion accessory with 24k gold trim on a unique rose coloured body.   The D&G sales package comes with special D&G items and a special earphone set.

No word yet on its street price, but with the fourth quarter just around the corner, we should see some official word about that.
