After much talk over the past few months the HTC Click has now received an official announcement from HTC, and a name change. Now known as the HTC Tattoo it looks set to bring the Android OS to a wider audience due to its very affordable price tag.
The HTC Tattoo sees a move away from HVGA capacitive screens found on most Android devices and instead opts for a QVGA resistive touchscreen which HTC says is more suitable for a phone employing a 2.8″ screen. The Android will be overlaid with HTC Sense UI which HTC will claim will make the Tattoo more customisable, and will be the second HTC phone to use the proprietary HTC interface after the very popular HTC Hero. The customisability is further enhanced by the changeable covers which were once very popular back in the days of old Nokia phones but over the past few years have been dropped for standard white, black and perhaps one other colour if you’re lucky. The changeable covers are the reason for the name Tattoo and are a feature that is starting to make a revival as people remember the fun they used to have with their leopard skinned phones. Tattoo owners will be able to upload their own images to an HTC service and have them turned into a cover for the phone.
With a 528MHz Qualcomm processor the Tattoo is speedy for a phone of its price and there is also a 3.2 megapixel camera but unfortunately this will not come with a flash. A 3.5mm audio jack is included for using headphones (something HTC had recently stated they would start to include on all their phones much to everyone’s delight) and microSD slot for increasing the Tattoos internal storage. On top of this there is Wi-Fi and built in GPS as well as 256MB RAM.
The Tattoo has been scheduled for release at some point in October and looks set to bring Android to a wider audience by being issued at a much lower price than previous HTC Android phones.
