LG BL40 Chocolate released this month

September 7th, 2009 by Simon

bl40chocolateMany people have long been awaiting the release of the new LG BL40 Chocolate, the phone that has been standing out for its unique 21:9 aspect ratio with its expansive 4” TFT screen. Now LG has satisfied onlookers by announcing when they plan to unleash the phone into the wider world, and they won’t have to wait long. While the Chocolate will see a world wide release in around 50 countries come October it will be released across Europe later this month with the UK being picked as the lucky country to see its initial launch.

The BL40 is most noticeable because of its screen which comes with a resolution of 800 x 345 making it very nicely detailed, and its cinematic ratio makes it ideal for a number of purposes. One of these is the playback of widescreen videos and for this purpose the BL40 is not let down by its media player either, coming with a great range of support including DivX and XviD. The other area where the screen size is ideally suited is for web browsing. While many phones these days have excellent browsers their screens are not ideal for viewing internet content and often require fiddly and inconvenient scrolling or zooming, but the Chocolate’s aspect ratio of 21:9 means that pages can be viewed in a much more familiar manner.

While many companies would have focused their attention on the wideness of the screen to the detriment to the rest of the phone LG has still come up trumps in terms of the BL40’s other features. The 5 megapixel camera comes with the highest quality Schneider-Kreuznach optics, as well as an LED flash and geo-tagging. But do not worry, it is not necessary with the camera to take photos in the BL40’s rather unconventional dimensions.

The BL40 will be available later this month from Carphone Warehouse and Orange, while Europe and the wider world will have to wait a little longer unfortunately.
