Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has recently announced its newest QWERTY smartphone, the Windows 6.1- run LG GW550. It will get an update from the newer and more powerful Windows Mobile 6.5 OS together with its more powerful big brother, the GM730. The new LG handset should get wider distribution in the European and Asian markets soon.
Practical Business Phone Features
Looking like the Nokia E72 and sporting the look of typical Blackberry phone, the new LG smartphone has features that aim to appeal to the business corporate users. Its Windows Mobile 6.1 platform and a full QWERTY keyboard betray this market focus. Here are its major features:
- The handset sports a 2.4” QVGA TFT LCD screen with 65k color depth support, very typical of many mobile handsets in this form factor and using the Windows Mobile OS that can’t seem to go beyond 65k colors.
- It’s a quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and tri-band UMTS smartphone with 3G/HSDPA/HSUPA connectivity support that allows high speed internet browsing and surfing.
- It sports a 3.2 megapixel fixed focus camera and a VGA secondary camera at the front for video calls in 3G.
- It has Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR, USB 2.0 and a microSD memory expansion slot.
Obviously, while LG is aiming to position the LG GW550 to the business folks, its feature set won’t make it a stand-out among the more tech savvy ones. But that is quite understandable if LG wants to capture the more practical crowd and wider markets wanting the basic QWERTY smartphone with everything they need for fast browsing and messaging without having to spend more on frills they won’t ever use. With 3G and high speed data connectivity support, you can be sure of that.
