Sony Ericsson’s New Fashion Phone – the Jalou

September 15th, 2009 by Simon

Sony-Ericsson-JalouA Phone and a Compact Mirror

After the recently launched Satio and Xperia models, it appears Sony Ericsson is about to launch another touchscreen mobile.  This time, it’s going to be full-fledged fashion phone in the compact clamshell form factor.  Codenamed Jalou, the new handset measures a mere 73mm long when folded, no more than you’re your favourite lipstick.

Its faceted case sports a 2” QVGA mirror-finished screen that actually can act as a compact mirror with a special key to flip between the two.  That’s a dead giveaway on the target market demographics of the Sony Ericsson Jalou.

The Jalou will come with a limited edition version dressed up by no less than Dolce & Gabbana, the fashion house known for sprucing up beautiful and elegant mobile phones as an expensive upscale fashion accessory.  This one gets 24-Karat Gold trimmings, a special headset, an exclusive D&G bag and other upscale items in its package.  Just be prepared for its similarly premium price tag.

Competitive Features on a Fashion Phone

The Jalou is a quad band GSM and triband UMTS (900/1700/2100) and is the first Sony Ericsson model to feature an integrated pedometer or step-counter trade-marked WalkMate to help the trendy user monitor his walking as a form of exercise. It has the usual support for Google apps and social networking sites, Exchange and FM radio with RDS.

There’s 3.2 megapixel camera with geo-tagging, video light and video recording, WalkMan music player, 3G, Bluetooth with A2DP support, and a NetFront internet browser with YouTube support.

2009 seems to be the busiest year for Sony Ericsson with a string of new models that have proven their strong appeal in the mobile markets after years of dismal performance.  With forays into the Windows Mobile, Symbian and Android platforms, we see a revitalized Sony Ericsson banking on fresh innovative models as its ticket to getting out of their financial predicament.
