Microsoft recently launched the latest version of its mobile operating system, which as you all know was Windows Mobile 6.5, and mobile phone manufacturers across the globe have already announced their intentions to upgrade some of their current Windows Mobile powered handsets to it. Amongst the group is HTC, the biggest Windows Mobile device maker, who has said that it will be updating 3 handsets to the new OS, and has already made the update available on two of their phones, the Touch Pro2 and the Snap.
The update for the HTC Touch Pro2 can be found right now on the mobile manufacturers website as ROM version 1.86.401.0, and for Snap ROM version 2.03.405.2 is also available. The company has stated that these mobile phones would come to shelves with the new operating system already in place, and the updates are only intended for people who purchased their handsets early with the Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system on them, as opposed to 6.5.
The company has a message to those of you who are wanting to perform the update;
“Before you proceed, please confirm that this software upgrade is a newer version than what is currently installed on your device. If it is the same version and your device is operating normally, there is no need to reinstall the software. To check what version is installed on your device, click Start > Settings > System tab > Device Information > Version tab, and note the ROM version, CPU, and Radio version.”
It should be pointed out here too that you will lose your current settings with the update, and as always important data must be backed up.
