When a mobile phone is still in its pre-release state, there are plenty of things to speculate about. Even the specs you will find in press releases can be subject to change. For better or for worse, nothing is certain about a mobile device until it hits the shelf, except for the model shots. When you already have the image of the device just a few weeks away from launch date, you know you have something final and certain. This is because manufacturing details cannot easily be changed without pushing back the release date. From the initial images of the GW620, we certainly hope they will not change a thing.
The Resistive Touch Screen
The LG GW620 has a beautiful three inch resistive touch screen. Like any other mobile phone, this one has a black glass finish. What makes it look real good is the very dark matte finish surrounding the screen. The contrast is simply too cool to not notice. Taking a step away from the current trend of capacitive touch screens, LG is now using a different technology with this model. The debate on which touch screen is more accurate when it comes to detecting taps and slides is on going with neither side showing a real advantage over the other. The difference is not bad at all; using either type will give you pretty much the same results. What matters is the calibration software.
The Full QWERTY Keyboard
Having a slide out, full QWERTY keyboard is a feature that most touch screen phones have learned to incorporate successfully into a device. Even if you have a virtual onscreen keypad, that method still takes away precious space onscreen. This is even more noticeable when browsing the internet. Using a full keyboard is a solution that requires a good design concept in order to pull off properly. The keyboard has to be large enough to accommodate all the keys and to be handled by two fingers at the same time and still be small enough to not add a bulk to the phone.
