Carphone Warehouse has just suspended sales of the Sony Ericsson Satio smartphone thanks to a large number of returns from their customers – a situation that seems to stem from some software issues.
The mobile phone’s manufacturer is not going to be happy, with this making a noticeable dent in their effort to gain market share and rid themselves of their previous reputation of making badly functioning devices.
Luckily for Sony Ericsson all is not lost, as when the Satio launched back in October it was pushed through as many distribution channels as possible, meaning that Carphone Warehouse suspending sales of the device, while a blow, is not the end of the world for the manufacturer.
Carphone Warehouse issued a statement confirming that they had indeed suspended sales of the Sony Ericsson Satio, stating; “From time to time we experience issues with new handsets, and their software, which may result in a customer experience that is below our usually high standards. We want customers to have complete confidence and satisfaction in the handsets they buy from us, which is why we have temporarily withdrawn the Sony Ericsson Satio from sale. We are working closely with Sony Ericsson to restock the Satio phone as soon as possible and will offer any customer who returns a faulty Satio an exchange of phone.”
I’ve got to say that during my time playing with the Satio I didn’t notice any issues, however given that Sony Ericsson has a long history of software problems, supposedly due to inferior quality control, I’m not surprised.
The company is however trying to make things right, having promised that this is their “utmost priority” and that they are “working toward solving it as soon as possible.”
