Nokia Goes Cheap; as Always

November 10th, 2009 by Best Mobile Contracts

2690_white_front_302x302The running gag, and reality, with the major phone manufacturer Nokia, is that they will never run out of disposable, generic GSM devices. In fact, just to prove the point, Nokia has around five cheap models out for the holidays. The Nokia 1280, 1616, 1800, 2220 Slide and the 2690 are all going to be retailed for prices lower than 60 quid. That is not cheap, that is a giveaway. But if you really need a phone quick, then this is as good choice since these GSM devices, for all their lack of design aesthetic and style, are still pretty solid mobile phones.

The Nokia 2690 in particular is an interesting GSM phone. It has music playback, an FM radio, and even EDGE support. If you have friends coming over for the holidays and their phones are locked to whatever country they are coming from, just hand them one of these little gadgety Nokia models and nobody would know how cheap they really are.

Yep, the 2690 does not look cheap; I guess I was wrong about all these devices not having a design aesthetic. At least one does. The real deal is that these phones, ugly as they are, are functional. And since they are simple devices, there is nothing wrong with their functions. No slowdowns, no bugs, nothing.

I personally have no need for such cheap handsets. If I am going to be spending money on a mobile phone, I might as well make the investment worthwhile. These phones would work great if you suddenly have need of a replacement device in case your mobile phone gets damaged or misplaced. Sadly, these devices have very little resale value. Be sure that when you longer need them; dispose these phones at a proper location. There are also plenty of trade-in centers for these too.
