The BlackBerry Curve is one of RIM’s most well recognized devices. While it does not exactly surpass the later Bold 9700 in terms of specifications, the Curve can be considered as the next turning point for BlackBerry devices. More than just the conversion of the iconic track ball to the now-well-accepted track pad, but also for its positioning as the device that ushered in the next line of BlackBerry devices.
Anyway, the BlackBerry Curve has finally made its way to the United States and mobile carrier Verizon is now offering the messaging phone for a hundred bucks under contract.
Yes, the phone will not be offered for free. For a monthly play of 29.99 USD, the phone can be bought at a discounted price of 99.99 USD. The device is officially 199 USD, but signing a contract will grant a 100 USD rebate on the device. It’s a good deal, though a plan for a free phone would have been so much better.
New to the Verizon’s subscribers is the addition of the Verizon 3G EV-DO network which allows for the uploading and sending of images and messages. Details about the EV-DO are available on the official Verizon website.
The BlackBerry Curve has a 2 mega pixel camera for photos and videos. For storage, it can support up to 32GB microSD cards. Travelling folks will appreciate having all that space and the camera, along with the GPS capability for geo tagging photos to be shared with friends and family. This, along with the messaging capabilities and the media playback features make the BlackBerry Curve a highly functional device.
The Curve also introduces integrated web applications for Facebook and MySpace, allowing users to easily access the social networking sites with ease. Also, the track pad (mentioned earlier) makes the mobile experience a lot smoother and easier, providing users with a convenient method of accessing the device and moving around the menus.
