Aino Takes a Hit

December 1st, 2009 by Best Mobile Contracts

Sony Ericsson AinoSomeone must be casting a pretty bad hex on Sony Ericsson, the company is losing two limbs just before Christmas. If anyone thought that the pulling out of the SE Satio from the shelves of Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U were bad; get this: the newer Aino is also getting grounded.  The Satio suffered from lags, slowdowns, loading problems, battery drains and some reports of ringtones disappearing.

Sony has practically nothing lined up this Christmas. With the XPERIA X2 eating the dust of the HTC HD2 and their X10, Pureness and Kurara not appearing until next year, the company may not be able to take advantage of the holiday season. This is a major blow for a company that badly needs to get some sales going again.

Not so long ago, Sony Ericsson closed several locations and offices in four different locations. Initial reports stated that they let go of over 2000 workers. They have moved the North American operations to Atlanta; the old Miami offices which handled Latin America were also folded into the NA operations. Outside of the US, a facility in India and in Sweden were closed (operations were moved to Lund). The company is quickly losing ground and their products are consistently not performing up to task.

The Aino is a multimedia smart phone that uses an SE proprietary interface and is practically like a Satio without the Symbian OS. The device was supposed to have been launched recently, but there have been reports that the software is experiencing issues that cause the device to crash.

Sony has not released any specific details about the problem, but there have been rumors that the OS has problems with the touch screen and the Bluetooth capabilities. So far, Sony has not provided any patches or hot-fixes for the problems.
