Going Green: The Sony Ericsson Elm and Hazel Phones

December 18th, 2009 by Best Mobile Contracts

Sony Ericsson Elm 2There are a lot of things going on in our planet right now, but nothing is more urgent and even more ignored than the fact that this world needs our help. Considering that capitalism and consumerism are the two most powerful forces on our planet right now (and maybe Oprah), it is no surprise that the biggest waste output our society produces is in the form of massive CO2 emissions.

“A little can go a long way”, “change starts from within”, “every drop counts” –all these eco-friendly slogans are nothing unless they are put into action, Sony Ericsson knows this, they care about the environment and they are adding two more devices to their GreenHeart series.

Yes, at least one mobile phone manufacturer actually cares enough about the planet to actively go green. While other companies do have CO2 emission reductions plans, they should be promoted to encourage more people to do the same. Anyway, GreenHeart is part of Sony Ericsson’s carbon emission reduction program and it is a series of phones and products that are manufactured in a very eco-friendly way, both procedure and materials.

Sony Ericsson Hazel 1The GreenHeart standards are simple. The products are made with at least 50% recycled plastic. This means that less than half the normal plastic will be needed for most phones. The procedure for creating new gadgets and accessories also use no harmful chemicals, which means that SE facilities have no toxic wastes. Even the paint used is made of water-borne ingredients.

The Elm and the Hazel are both quad-band GSM and HSPA capable devices that have 5 mega pixel cameras, WiFi, Bluetooth and excellent multimedia capabilities. They are both packed with very minimal packaging and the manuals are in digital format inside the phones. The Elm is a candy bar phone that will be released on Q1 of 2010 and the Hazel is a slider set to be released on Q2.
