The Nokia N900 is going to reach UK shores a lot earlier than expected. It is reported that the phone will be launched on January 7, 2010 and will be carried by Vodafone.
Vodafone will be offering the new Maemo phone for free on a 35 Pound tariff for 24 months. It’s a good deal, and considering that the phone uses 3G connectivity heavily, the unlimited internet access is much appreciated. Expect to see deals from O2 and Orange Mobile UK shortly after the official launch of the N900.
With the Nokia N97 being pulled out of shelves for its lack of reliability (freezing, slowdowns, crashes and power drains), Nokia has made it sure that they would have at least two high end devices on UK shelves early of 2010. Right now, the N97 Mini is the only high end phone in Nokia’s UK lineup.
For those who cannot wait to get the phone, Carphone Warehouse is making the device available through them by December 26.
Outside the UK, the Maemo-powered phone is being enjoyed for its application friendly nature. Many users are enjoying the use of emulators on the N900 to play downloaded ROM games for old video game consoles.
The N900 comes with a 3.5 inch TFT resistive touch screen. It has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and can display a total of 16 million colors. The screen also has a proximity sensor and an accelerometer sensor. Aside from the touch screen, users can also use the slide-out full QWERTY keyboard.
The phone has an internal memory of 32GB and the micro SD card can support up to 16GB –perfect for storing images that you can shoot with the 5 mega pixel camera with LED flash and auto-focus features (it also has geo-tagging). The camera can also shoot WVGA videos at 25 FPS.
