Sony Ericsson is keeping the spirit of responsible eco-management alive with their GreenHeart mobile phone series. They already have two GreenHeart devices for their holiday line up, Sunny and Susan. But the series does not stop there; Sony Ericsson has just recently announced there will be two more mobile phones in the GreenHeart lineup named Elm and Hazel.
The GreenHeart series stands out for Sony’s eco-friendly approach in manufacturing these devices. First off the phones are made of at least 50% recycled plastics. The packing is very minimal to avoid wasting paper and the instruction manuals come in electronic format (the phones have E-manuals). The devices have no hazardous chemicals and use waterborne paint. Lastly, GreenHeart phones use the EP300 GreenHeart adapter that uses low energy consumption for charging SE GreenHeart devices.
Both devices use the WalkMate application that debuted in the SE Naite. It is an interesting little app that helps you keep track of the distance you have walked and how many steps you have taken. This is useful for keeping track of daily fitness requirements and also
for encouraging people to walk more instead of driving. They also have the green calculator, which is useful for tracking energy usage and carbon footprints.
These two mobile phones each has a 5 mega pixel camera with LED flash and auto focus –perfect for taking clear images for uploading. Both also have full A-GPS support with turn-by-turn navigation, Google Search, Google Maps, and a 10 day free trial of Accuweather services.
The Elm is a standard candy bar phone with a nice plastic finish; the Hazel on the other hand is a snazzy little slider phone with a sleek matte casing. The Elm comes in black and metallic silver while the Hazel comes in black and deep red. Expect these phones to arrive on 2010.
