Just a few weeks ago came the news that Sony Ericsson had to close up some of their offices in the United States, a facility in India and another facility in Sweden. An estimated total of 2000 employees were let go in the process.
It is pretty much public knowledge that the company is having problems. Among the closed offices were those in Miami, apparently these were folded into the main North American branches, as for the facilities in India and Sweden, a new SE facility was opened in Lund to take care of operations.
The problems did not stop there, despite the hype and marketing invested by the company into their upcoming XPERIA X2 and Satio devices, both mobile devices are having problems. Taking the bigger news is the Satio; despite already been released, the device has too many bugs and errors that are causing problems for owners. It has gotten to a point where the problems have gotten so widespread that two major mobile phone retailers pulls the Satio off the shelves for a few weeks.
Carphone Warehouse and Phonse4U both reported that they have suspended sales of the Sony Satio. Sometime last week, Sony released a firmware update that would be able to fix the problems; CW reported that they will be restocking the Satio shortly.
With just a few days left before the holiday season hits, the news of the Satio pullout was a major blow for the company, even the errant rumors that the Aino was also suffering from problems made things worse (it was not, fortunately).
Despite having a software fix that will solve the problem, Sony has been quiet about the release, waiting until proper patches for the branded versions also come out. This is done in an effort to prevent people from excitedly downloading a fix that would not work for their phone.
