It is not news that Sony Ericsson is in trouble. They have been these past couple of years due to low phone sales and sadly, mostly weak devices. Which is a sad shame since there are some SE phones that are just plain good; the walkman series in particular were pretty trendy, stylish and functional, for a bunch of mostly-GSM devices.
Anyway, the last big news bits regarding the mobile phone manufacturer was that they closed up several offices, and are really hoping that this holiday will bring much needed revenue into the coffers.
Just a couple of days back, it was confirmed that their new Windows Mobile 6.5 device, the XPERIA X2 would be delayed till next year, putting the phone much behind its already successful competitor, the HTC HD2.
A big blow landed a couple of weeks ago when Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U announced that they would be suspending sales of all the Satio devices. The SE Satio, as many may have seen, has been on the forefront of Sony’s marketing scheme this last quarter, there was even a large scale advertising campaign that certainly cost the company mega-bucks.
The reason for the pull out was due to firmware problems that ranged from slowdowns to freezing and power downs. The problem was so widespread that instead of selling the device, the two major retailers just decided to hold all sales.
Even worse, the news sparked an added rumor that the Aino was also suffering from problems. This was cleared up by both Sony Ericsson and Carphone Warehouse –affirming that all the Aino phones are ready for sale once launch day hits.
Anyway, the good news of for Sony is that the Satio just got a fix, the patch has been available since last week and it will fix the problems of all unbranded devices. Sony has been keeping quiet about this latest update until there are fixes for all versions of the Satio.
