A few weeks back, Samsung announced that they would release the Samsung S3650W; a modified version of the original Samsung Corby (known as Genio Touch locally) that would have one major critical feature not present in the old phone: wireless LAN support.
The Genio Touch featured integrated web applications and a design that made it a phone for the younger audiences –a market that strongly uses online features. As one might expect, the lack of WiFi severely hampered the device’s usefulness.
But instead of pushing through with the S3650W, Samsung decided to come up with a whole new phone –the Lindy M5650. The change came as a bit of a surprise, but the resulting device is far more impressive than a basic Genio with WiFi.
The Lindy M5650 not only has WiFi, it also has 3G capabilities. Still, the phone looks a lot like the original Genio Touch. The size difference between the two devices is so negligible that the Lindy could probably pass for a phone in the Genio series; the only thing it lacks is the bright color choices that the Genio series is known for.
The phone supports GSM and HSDPA network and is expecting a release this holiday season. See this 106 x 57 x 12 mm phone making its way to the wish lists of Genio fans thanks to its impressive specs.
Just like the touch, the device is a candy bar style touch screen phone. The 2.8 inch TFT capacitive touch screen can display a total of 256 thousand colors and has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels.
The Lindy also has 50MB of internal storage for photos and other files, the 8GB capable micro SD card slot should come in handy for larger files. The phone will also have a 960 mAh lithium-ion battery and is estimated to have a retail price of 159 Euro.
