It is still pretty early for assumptions but it has been said that tech blogger Presse-Citron has stated that LG will be releasing a WinMo 7 device this coming September. The blogger is reported to have attended a design session at the LG design labs.
So far, LG has some pretty big scale project going with its already announced GW990 super phone that reared its high-spec head at the last CES. The GW990 sported a huge touch screen (4.8 inches) and an Atom processor clocked at an unknown speed –rumors are pointing that the Atom could be anywhere from 1.6 GHz or faster; faster than the upcoming dual core Snapdragon with its 1.5 GHz speed. Anyway, while LG has yet to even announce further details on the GW990; new rumors of an LG device just popped up.
This time, there are no reported specs, just an operating system; Windows Mobile 7. Looks like LG will be playing both sides of the WinMo and Android war with the rumors that LG is also working on a new Android 2.1.
WinMo 7 might be a blessing or bane. Unlike its previous predecessors, WinMo 7 might not be supporting old applications for lower WinMo versions. While full application support is impossible, it would be suicide for an OS to completely not support old applications.
Applications are very crucial for an operating system, for WinMo phone users who are planning to upgrade, this rumor might be very discouraging as all the progress in the previous OS might be lost.
Back to LG, the September announcement is mostly surprising for its declaration of date (something which should not be made much in regards to WinMo as delays often his WinMo phones). Anyway, LG has already confirmed early on that they will indeed be creating mobile device for the upcoming OS, it was all simply a matter of when.
