LG is making waves in the mobile phone industry with some of its heavy hitting hardware. The Moblin based GW990 packs a huge screen, an Atom processor clocked at a yet to be announced speed and all the makings of a tablet-phone. The recently announced Apollo runs a powerful dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor at an unrivaled 1.3 GHz and the device also comes with a 10 mega pixel camera and full HD recording as well. So it comes as a surprise that LG’s Android mobile phone for 2010 is not a super gadget but a budget device.
Out of character, but a smart move nonetheless; the competition for “most powerful Android phone” is pretty tight right now with the release of the Nexus One, the upcoming HTC Bravo, XPERIA X10 and the Motorola Shadow. On the other hand, the only available budget Android devices are the ones that popped out last year, making a new entry into the field for this year a very welcome sight.
The LG InTouch MX GW620 mobile phone is a budget phone, despite its high-end looks. At first glance, this QWERTY keyboard packing slide phone might seem like a regular in the list of high-end 3G marvels that have been popping up recently, but that is all on the surface. Despite the large 3 inch touch screen, the phone itself is pretty Spartan as far as smart phones are concerned. All the extra features are focused mainly on integrated web applications for easy social networking access.
The phone will come with support for micro SD cards, WiFi, a 3.5mm audio jack and a 5 mega pixel snapper. For those interesting in getting the device, it is already out on T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile. T-Mobile offers the device for free to its 20 Pound 24 month tariff customers.
