7 of 10 Know what an iPad is

February 10th, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

Apple-iPadNo, it is not a new type of push up bra (that’s actually a product of Coconut Grove –a Canadian lingerie manufacturer).

The iPad, if you are one of the 3 of 10, is the new electronic tablet made by Apple. This slim device may look like an oversized iPod Touch, but in fact, it is so much more than that. The large 9.7 inch touch screen display delivers a high quality 1024 x 768 resolution for viewing anything from games to web pages. It can handle 3D and high animation frame rates without much trouble. The touch screen also allows you to bring up a virtual keyboard for typing long messages.

The device is powered by a high speed 1GHz A4 CPU manufactured by Apple specifically for this tablet. The iPad is expected to arrive in 3G and non 3G versions; the 3G version will also have GPS. Internal memory options are available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.

While people are indeed familiar with the iPad name, not many are sure about what the device can actually do. Most people are stuck with the idea that the tablet is simply an oversized iPod Touch with eBook functionality.

A recent study of adults in the UK showed that 70% knew what the iPad name is and can identify images of the device. But when asked about the capabilities very few knew what the device can and cannot do. This lack of familiarity certainly affects the people who are interested in buying the iPad –though the general lack of interest also explains why not many have read up on the device in the first place. With the device still not due for launch for a while, Apple might be planning to deliver a better iPad awareness program before the release.
