Among the many impressive, high end smart phones that made their quick debuts at last Sunday’s Mobile World Congress, industry giants HTC and Sony Ericsson showcased some incredibly small, yet very impressive devices.
Most of today’s better phones are going for bigger and larger screens. The XPERIA X10 and the HTC HD2 both sport screens at the 4 inch range, making these two devices as some of the largest current generation mobile phones (not counting the LG GW900). Still, despite the fact that these mobile phones represent what we can probably consider as the best hardware that current technology can squeeze in, these are phones made and designed for the hard core mobile phone users. These Snapdragon-powered behemoths are not meant for the general public.
What we really need are smart phones that are both power packed, and at the same time sensibly priced. This is why both Sony Ericsson and HTC have created Mini versions of their high end smart phones.
The XPERIA X10 just got an X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro version. The Mini and the Mini Pro are half the size of the original –the Pro comes with a physical QWERTY keyboard.
HTC’s HD2 also got an HD Mini which features many of the HD2’s standard features, but slightly watered down. Size wise, the HD Mini is pretty small compared to the HD2 –making it easier to store, manage and carry around.
The big difference in the HD2 and the HD Mini is that the Mini uses the new WinMo 6.5.3 OS whereas the HD2 uses the WinMo 6.5 OS skinned with the Sense user interface. Speaking for HTC Sense, the proprietary UI will also be present in the HTC Desire and HTC Legend.
