HTC Smart To Launch On O2

February 17th, 2010 by Caroline

HTC SmartThe HTC Smart is to be introduced on O2. This should allow the mobile phone network to capture a slice of the affordable end of the market as the Smart is HTC’s latest budget smartphone – and will be exclusively available on O2 from April onwards.

With a young audience in mind, the Smart will come in three colours: white, black and pink. The phone focuses on social networking features combined with affordability.

Despite its budget-friendly price, though, the Smart comes with the Sense UI which is seen on high-end HTC handsets like the Legend and the Desire. And just like these more extravagant smartphones, the Smart also has social networking integration. Friend Stream syncs all your contacts with your social networking sites, and the phone comes with pre-loaded apps for the likes of Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.

The internal workings of the Smart comprise a 300MHz processor, 256MB RAM and 256MB ROM, and Qualcomm’s Brew operating system. The phone supports HSDPA internet so you can download data quickly and it boasts a HTML browser so web pages load in full instead of the mobile version.

The 2.8 inch touchscreen is resistive like on the HTC Tattoo, rather than capacitive like the iPhone’s screen. There is a 3-megapixel camera with fixed focus and flash onboard, Bluetooth, a media player, and a 3.5mm audio connector for plugging in your favourite headset.

O2 has not announced tariffs yet but expect the HTC Smart to be super cheap when it hits the shelves in April.
