N97 Getting Kinetic Scrolling and Nothing More

February 4th, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

Nokia N97 (1)Finnish mobile phone manufacturer Nokia is definitely delivering a bad joke with the latest update for the Nokia N97.

For those of you who are already familiar with this infamous device, yes, Nokia has finally decided to release a patch for it. Though while many of us would think that the new patch would address either one or two of the dozens of problems that are on the phone, the patch has nothing to do with those. This update, called 21.0.045 will simply enable users to use smoother kinetic scrolling on the phone’s user interface.

Well, kinetic scrolling does look good and it makes navigation a little bit easier, but even the scrolling is not as smooth as one would think.

While this already warrants a solid fail, let us take a quick look at some of the many problems that Nokia should have addressed.

The first major concern about the device is the way the interface tends to lock up when you press a certain series of commands. More often than not, the phone’s multi tasking capabilities will not allow you to end the program of the errant software. In some cases, the bugs are negligible, often messing around with the visibility or availability of some menu boxes. On the other hand, there are also device crippling bugs that force the device to keep rebooting constantly. Hitting the delete key (when deleting multiple items one after the other) is known to crash the device.

Nokia certainly does make odd decisions at times. Last week, they unveiled a great revision of the X6 music phone with the cheaper 16GB version. This week, they wasted their energy on updating a buggy phone without actually doing anything about the bugs.
