At least we are still looking at a same month release; the fact that Steve Jobs did not give a specific date outside the month of April makes the news about the iPad delay a little bearable. As recently confirmed, we are now looking at an undisclosed “late April” release date for the Apple touch screen tablet.
Aside from the fact that the delay is only a couple or so weeks off, this actually gives Apple plenty of time to advertise their new gadget a little better. While the iPad has already made its rounds doing media cameos and is already a ‘slightly recognized’ name, many people still do not know what the tablet really is.
Previous survey showed that despite over 70% of the population is actually able to recognize and name the device, less than half are actually familiar with its capabilities and what it is for. With that in mind, it is not surprising to know that less than 30% are even slightly interested in purchasing the device.
Lack of market presence and its’ steep price tag will definitely give the iPad an uphill sales battle as it tries to justify the cost of a 64GB 3G version despite its’ numerous drawbacks. Many tech heads are already looking down at Steve Jobs’ stubborn refusal to support Adobe –and in so doing, Flash. Even worse is that this powerful little tablet does not feature multi tasking even if the hardware can easily support it.
In the US, the iPad will be coming out a little earlier; April 3. Both the UK and the US will have the same specifications: a 9.7 inch capacitive touch screen, 1 GHz A4 processor and buyer options for internal memory capacity. While it has been announced that there would be 3G and non-3G versions of the device, there is no news yet as to when the non-3G version will be out.
