The latest offering from Samsung is the Android smart phone, Galaxy S. The device is the next galaxy smart phone after the highly successful Spica.
New to the Galaxy S is the use of the new super AMOLED touch screen technology we originally saw in the Samsung Wave smart phone. This new touch screen is stunningly beautiful and delivers the best screen images available on mobile phones today. The colors on the screen appear rich and vivid, the lines are crisp and the overall brightness is aptly applied to the image allowing for proper contrast. Speaking of contrast, the blacks on the super AMOLED screen look very close to true blacks as opposed to the dimly lit gray pixels on other screens.
Aside from having an impressive screen, the Galaxy S also has a nice 1GHz processor and a 5 megapixel camera. According to recent reports, the device has been certified for DivX compatibility making it one of the first few mobile devices to offer DivX in HD format. Movie buffs will certainly enjoy watching high definition videos on the large 4 inch touch screen.
The smart phone will naturally have the new Android 2.1 operating system. Samsung has also put in the TouchWiz user interface, the Social Hub networking tool, the new Smart Life organizer and a Word document editor, the ThinkFree. Details on the Smart Life feature are not available at the moment while the Social Hub has already been shown off with the Wave.
Speaking of the Samsung Wave, this smart phone is the first device to use the super AMOLED display, though it is only 3.3 inches as opposed to the 4 inch display on the Android Galaxy S. Both devices have been confirmed for UK release but no specific launch dates have been given.
