5 New Phones From Dell

April 28th, 2010 by Simon

The iPhone changed the entire mobile phone scene. Now, the “smart phone” is taking over the mobile phone industry. Even though, just years ago, almost everyone had cheaper, clunkier, “dumber” phones, the smart phone has made its way up to the top of the demand. Dell has recently released information about 5 of its new smart phones it will be releasing, and if you are planning on shopping for a new phone, these could be viable options. Depending on what you want in the mobile phone, as well as of course the superficial looks of the mobile phone, you’ll get a better idea which phone to pick from this information. Read on to learn about each mobile phone, and decide which will be the one best suited for you.

Dell AeroDell Aero

The Dell Aero is a lower end smart phone, at least lower end out of this group of Dell models. Showcasing a low/medium resolution 3.5 inch screen, it has a much lower end processor than the higher quality phones, and less capabilities. Although technically, it might be inferior to the other Dell smart phones, it does have tons of things it can do. The Aero can support almost all Google products, such as Gmail, Google Talk, and Google Maps (Google search included, of course). The Aero also has GPS, another helpful feature. The Aero is more for the average consumer, looking for a cheaper phone. The four following phones however, are higher quality, with some bigger screens, all faster processors, and more application support.

Dell Flash

Dell FlashThe Dell Flash, supposedly set to release in 2011, will implement a modern, mid-range core that would, combined with the 512MB of RAM, allow the use of high-performance programs and software on the phone. The body of the phone seems to be mostly sleek, curved glass, which could yield problems as far as easy damage. The Flash has a 3.5 inch screen, as well as a surprisingly high quality 5MP camera. The camera will allow you to take relatively high-def photos and video, which will both be very enjoyable directly from that large screen. The camera is also rumored to have such handy features as steady shot, smile and blink detection (which would mean the phone will recognize a face and auto focus to it, as well as not take the photo if the subject is blinking, and will wait a split second to make sure you don’t waste your time). The Flash also has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, so you’ll be able to use your normal headphones or ear buds to listen to music from the phone, or to make calls.

We are expecting there to be many great Dell Flash deals available when it is released, but until then you can stay up to date with our Dell Flash reviews.

Dell Thunder

Dell ThunderAlthough the core and RAM performance specs for the Thunder have not been released, the Thunder seems to best the Flash in other ways. With a 4.1 inch screen, it seems it will be more for the media consumer. That, on top of rumours of an integrated app for web video and Hulu, heightens the possibility this will be a media consumer oriented phone. The Thunder further bests the flash with its camera. Sporting an astounding 8MP, the Thunder’s photo resolution beats many super-expensive dSLR cameras. Although, of course, it won’t have the same other performance qualities of an actual camera, the resolution alone will allow you to take photos that could be transferred to your PC for large, high-def prints. If the Thunder doesn’t lack in performance specs, which I doubt it will, considering it seems to be oriented for high-def media and photo, the Thunder can be expected to be a more expensive than the Flash. This higher end model, if you’ll be willing to shell out the extra cash, is sure to be a great choice.

Dell Smoke

Dell SmokeUnlike the Thunder and Flash, the Smoke is a non-full keyboard mobile phone. It has a 2.8 inch screen and full keyboard. The Thunder has the same core as the Flash, but its RAM specs have not been released. The keyboard resembles that of a Blackberry, to give you an idea. The screen is of course, much bigger than the Blackberry’s though. Based on this resemblance, the Smoke is more targeted as a phone for business, unlike the Thunder, which seems like a media phone. The Smoke has the same 5 MP camera as the Flash, with the same features. The Smoke seems to be a great option for a work phone. Although extensive software opportunity information is not available, one can expect lots of work-oriented software preprogrammed onto the mobile phone.

Dell Lightning

Dell LightningNext in line is the Dell Lightning. The Dell Lighting is different than the first three in that it does not use the Android operating system. The Lightning uses Windows 7 Mobile, a much more powerful operating system. On top of this, it has a more powerful core processor. The lighting has the same huge 4.1 inch screen as the Thunder, yet has the 5 MP camera of the Flash or Smoke. The Lighting sports FM radio, GPS, Compass, and other nifty features that might or might not be on the other Dell smart phone models.

The Lightning is expected to be a popular phone and we are looking forward to some fantastic Dell Lightning deals, but in the meantime check out some Dell Lightning reviews for more information on this handset.

You’ll have to consider your needs in a smart phone before picking one. If you are interested in a cheaper, lower performance phone, then the Aero might be right for you. If you are going to be using the phone for business, the Smoke is a great option. For a high-performance personal communication and traveling phone, the Lightning is a perfect mobile phone for you. If you want a media oriented phone, you should pick up the Thunder. For a personal phone with fun musical capabilities, the Flash can fit your needs while looking ever so stylish.

Dell has produced a promising line of smart phones recently. All of them have relatively great specs, some better than others, but all of them have their own strengths and weaknesses. All of these factors combine to make the Dell smart phone line exciting and something to look forward to in the mobile phone industry.
