HTC Q1 Success

April 7th, 2010 by Caroline

HTC HD2Being sued by Apple does not seem to have slowed HTC down – Q1 profits for 2010 are very healthy indeed.

No doubt buoyed by the levels of interest in the newest handsets, Desire and Legend, HTC has just revealed a profit for 2010 Q1 of more than 5.03 billion Taiwan dollars (about £103 million).

The company has also announced revenues of 37.7 billion Taiwan dollars – 19.3% more than HTC made in Q1 in 2009.

However, the net profit is slightly less than the one the company made in Q4 in 2009 and 8% less than the profit made in the 2009 Q1.

The profit is far higher than expected, though, and the mobile phone manufacturer puts its success down to “successful branding strategies”. This certainly seems to be proving a great strategy for the likes of the Desire which is now being offered by Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone and 3 Mobile networks.

HTC has carved a real name for itself now thanks to devices like the HTC HD2 – the 4.3 inch capacitive touchscreen combined with Sense UI and a 1GHz Snapdragon adds up to an appealing device. And the Android-based Legend and Desire look set to follow in the HD2’s footsteps.

It’s strange to think that HTC started life as a fairly low profile mobile manufacturer, making Windows Mobile handsets which were then branded by other companies like O2. While it still makes devices for other companies – the most high profile one being the Google Nexus One – it is its own phones that are elevating HTC to the status of serious smartphone contender.
