A smartphone designed for simplicity and affordability has been launched by LG in the shape of the LG Optimus GT540.
Run on the Android 1.6 OS, the LG Optimus comes with various Google apps and features including Google Maps, Gmail and YouTube. And of course you’ll also be able to download additional apps from the Android Market.
A popular focus for phones – for example, the Sony Ericsson Zylo and Spiro, and the Microsoft Kin One and Kin Two, to name but a few – social networking integration is a big feature on the Optimus handset.
Loaded with apps for Facebook, Twitter and Bebo, the Optimus also delivers all your communication from these sites plus emails/texts etc straight onto your home screen.
Using all the features on the LG Optimus is effortless thanks to the straightforward UI. For example, you can accept and play DivX and XviD videos with simple drag-and-drop manoeuvres.
Dr. Skott Ahn, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said: “LG Optimus is the ideal choice for early smartphone users who expect all the features of smartphones without the complexity.”
He added: “This is a device that was designed for regular people who want to jump into the smartphone experience but have been hesitant to do so because of the learning curve. By making LG Optimus more approachable, we hope more people will give smartphones a try.”
The LG Optimus is released in Europe on 1 May. The price is yet to be confirmed for the handset but it is anticipated to be affordable.
