Microsoft’s Kin Ad: Sexting and More

April 20th, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

MS Kin TwoIt seems like Microsoft’s new video advertisement for the new Kin smart phones, Kin One and Kin Two,  has gotten some attention thanks to a few brief moments of suggestive sexting by the users of the phone in the video. While we all know that this is not the intention of the ad director, it seems that the subtle message has been picked up by various super-sensitive groups that have managed to find time to pick on the advert.

To quote internet lingo: sarcasm much? The fuss is pretty surprising. While it is not too uncommon for a few folks to share some strong opinions regarding the ad (even we have our reservations), it seems that there are those who are willing to take the nit-picking to a whole new level.

In any case, Microsoft has already responded to the early comments and has decided to take down the clip. The video can still be seen on several YouTube websites, but it is no longer being officially used by MS. No word yet if the video will be edited or re-shot for a second release. With Windows Phone 7 still underway and the two new Kin devices showcasing Windows CE version that highlights some key functions that will be seen on the upcoming mobile platform, MS cannot afford to have any kind of problems with the Kin launch.

In any case, the devices are actually pretty good. Despite the fact that Microsoft is marketing the handset to the younger crowd, there are still plenty of people who would appreciate this smart phone that is focused mainly on social networking. The phones even come with slide out QWERTY keyboards –further emphasizing the specialization of the devices as social network tools.
