April 13th, 2010 by Caroline

Nokia C3Keen to expand its range of social networking handsets, Nokia has just announced three new mobile phones which have messaging at their core.

The C3, C6 and E5 come with QWERTY keyboards, and support for multiple email accounts and social networking integration.

Head of markets at Nokia, Anssi Vanjoki said: “Our messaging device range is very successful. Services that provide easy access to the world’s consumer and corporate email and instant messaging are really popular on our QWERTY smartphones such as the Nokia E71 and Nokia E63.”

He added: “People want the best messaging and social networking experience on an affordable device, whether it’s sending a simple text or instant message, an email, or a direct message from their Twitter account. The Nokia C3, Nokia C6 and Nokia E5 are made for just that.”

The Nokia C3 (pictured top left) is a Series 40 handset – the first of this range to feature a full QWERTY keyboard. All your communication will be accessible from the home screen, including access to sites like Twitter and Facebook where you will be able to see updates, tweets etc. The handset comes with a 2.4 inch screen, Ovi Chat and Ovi Mail, Wi-Fi connection, a 2-megapixel camera and an expandable memory up to 8GB via a microSD card.Nokia C6

The Nokia C6 (pictured right) is a smartphone, run on the Symbian OS. The phone has a 3.2 inch touchscreen and a slide-out keyboard. A high-end handset, the C6 features a 5-megapixel camera with flash and autofocus, Ovi Maps with free walk and drive navigation, and access to the Ovi Store where diverse apps and games can be browsed and downloaded.

The C3 and C6 are expected to be available during Q2.

When it comes to the Nokia E-series of handsets, you have a fair idea these will be good for work and play. And this is because Nokia recently introduced a new system for labelling its handsets. Phones for simple communication are part of the C-range; those for business are E-series; top-spec devices are N-series; and those designed for entertainment are part of the X-series. Each phone is also given a number between 1 and 9 to indicate its cost, with 9 being the dearest.

Nokia E5Symbian-based, the new E5 handset (pictured left) combines business and social features into one. There is support for email through Mail for Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes Traveller, as well as various apps for helping you manage your hectic days. And when you want to relax, there are plenty of features within this smartphone to keep you entertained including social networking integration.

The E5 is due for release in Q3.

In terms of price, the C3 is estimated to cost €90, the C6 €220, and the E5 €180 – pre tax and subsidies.
