The games and the apps available in the Nokia Ovi Store are proving ever popular, with increasing numbers of apps being downloaded onto handsets on a daily basis.
Last month, there were about 1.5 million daily downloads of apps from the Store – and downloads have now hit 1.6 million per day.
The Ovi Store has a global reach, which undoubtedly helps to keep the numbers high. And apps can be downloaded onto more than 100 mobile phones including smartphones – among the range are the 5800 XpressMusic, N97 and N97 Mini, N900 and X6.
Phone users can access the Store in over 80 countries and 66 mobile operators – 19 of these operators offer mobile billing with the Nokia Store so users can pay for each app downloaded via their monthly phone bill, rather than via a debit or credit card.
And speaking of payment, the Nokia Ovi Store is offered in 30 languages, and the majority of consumers can purchase apps in their local currency.
This all sounds very impressive – until you make a direct comparison of the numbers with Apple and its App Store. When the updated iPhone OS 4.0 was unveiled, the company said that more than 4 billion apps have been downloaded from its App Store so far.
