To say that Sony Ericsson is back on its feet would be skipping plenty of much needed explanations. First off, the company was in far worse positions than being knocked down -it was practically sinking into a mush of financial deficits. The situation was more than bad; it was bleak, with little hope of recovery and many experts predicting that the end for the giant is coming soon.
Well, it looks like Bert Nordberg has plenty to teach the public as he has taken control of things and is steering the joint venture into greener pastures. The end of the first quarter of 2010 sees Sony Ericsson once again reporting a positive profit margin as opposed to the previous reports that are badly in the red. With £18 million in profits, this is the first time that we can actually say that there is something to look forward to in SE’s future.
Is Nordberg truly the man for the job? Some might say that he has also been behind some of the decisions that have brought some problems for Sony Ericsson. It was he at the head position when the whole trouble with the Satio happened, as well as the closing of several offices and facilities. Many also believed that it was a bad decision on Sony’s part to refuse being Google’s partner in making the Nexus One.
Still, the current numbers paint a different story: SE devices are selling well and the company is one again profitable.
With devices such as the new XPERIA series rolling along, the comeback of Walkman phones (Spiro and Zylo) and the ongoing Greenheart devices pushing the mobile phone industry green standards, it seems that the future of Sony Ericsson is something much brighter and longer.
