The latest affordable smartphone from HTC, the HTC Wildfire, will be sold on the Vodafone network too when it arrives in the UK soon.
Joining other network providers due to sell the Wildfire – 3, Virgin Media and T-Mobile – Vodafone have added the new HTC handset to its website and marked it as “coming soon”.
The Wildfire offers a lot for a little. There is the 3.2 inch capacitive screen complemented by touch-sensitive keys and support for multi-touch. The phone’s camera has 5-megapixels, an LED flash, autofocus and smile detection; and the processor is the same as the one that powers the popular HTC Hero (528 MHz).
A cheaper alternative for fans of the Desire or Legend, the HTC Wildfire is a capable smartphone with social networking integration and multiple connectivity options available through 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Although the screen is not as bright and high resolution as the ones on its bigger brothers, the Wildfire runs on Google’s Android 2.1 platform and sports the Sense UI for an interactive and friendly user experience.
Vodafone summarises the handset with: “If your life is a social whirl, your HTC Wildfire will keep it spinning while you’re out and about. Having Facebook, Twitter and Flickr on one screen makes everything simpler. A choice of over 30,000 apps in Android Market makes things more fun. And contacts organised in a way you’ll love makes staying in touch easy.”
And, in other HTC news, the HTC Desire is likely to get the Android 2.2 OS update on 23 June. This is according to a rumour that involves a conversation between a HTC Desire customer and HTC – apparently the customer called to complain about a lack of space for his apps and was advised that come 23 June he’d be able to save apps to microSD cards. This, as you undoubtedly know, is just one of the features of Android 2.2.
