According to Motorola, their latest Android smart phone will be launching on July 2. While initial reports speculated that the XT 720 handset would be coming out in June, the slight date adjustment is hardly going to be an issue for anyone who wants to purchase this impressive little handset. Mobile phone retailer eXpansys has already confirmed that they will be offering the handset when it launches. So far, no other stores have made similar announcements.
At first glance, the Motorola XT 720 Milestone looks no different from its predecessor, the original Milestone. But when you see the side profile of the device, its looks incredibly slim; and it is, in fact, one might even say that the XT 720 (or Motoroi) is actually the slimmest Android handset available. But we are reserving that judgment until the other Android devices come out this year.
In terms of specs, the two handsets are practically the same; the 3.7 inch TFT capacitive touch screen and the Motorola Milestone form factor are present once again. The old ARM Cortex A8 processor (running at 600 MHz) will still be used and the phone still retains its 150 MB of internal memory (actually the older phone has 130 MB but that’s pretty insignificant to even note).
The big difference between the two handsets is that the XT 720 Milestone does away with the slide out QWERTY keyboard and brings in a new 8 mega pixel camera to replace the older 5 MP snapper. The device also features 720p video recording, Xenon flash and an HDMI video output port for viewing the videos that you have shot.
Going from keyboard handset to media smart phone is a pretty good move from Motorola. Now, the Milestone handsets have something to offer for users who prefer movies and music over typing with a physical keyboard.
