Motorola Launches Square Android: Motorola FLIPOUT

June 3rd, 2010 by Caroline

Motorola FlipoutIf you’re tired of the traditional smartphone design, you’ll enjoy the new Motorola device that has just launched – the FLIPOUT has an unusual square shape and twist-out QWERTY keyboard.

Motorola calls it an “innovative square pivot design”. And the phone is still compact, portable and practical. The QWERTY keyboard has 5 rows of keys with a separate row for numeric keys to allow for fast and confident typing. There are 7 home screens which can be customised with various apps and features, as well as live wallpapers, and the MotoBlur UI which is also found on the Motorola DEXT handset.

In the company’s press release, Ralf Gerbershagen, vice president and GM, Mobile Devices, Western Europe, Motorola said: “FLIPOUT merges Motorola’s design heritage with Android to deliver a new take on the typical smartphone form. In an incredibly compact square, FLIPOUT fits neatly in your palm, purse or small pocket, making it fun and easy to stay connected while on the go. For fans of social networking, FLIPOUT also features enhancements to MOTOBLUR, allowing users to connect with their networks however they want.”

With MotoBlur UI onboard, the FLIPOUT merges all your communication – photos, emails, texts, Facebook messages, tweets on Twitter – into the one place. You can view and respond straight from the home screen. And for easy management, you can filter the communications according to social networking sites or groups of friends.

The phone features CrystalTalkTM PLUS technology which removes background noise and enhances call quality. Other features include a 2.8 inch touchscreen, web browser with Flash support, 3-megapixel camera and one-touch uploads to your favourite sites. And as an Android device, there are lots of Google features onboard including Google Maps and Google Search.

Due for release in Europe during Q2 this year, we’ll bring you Motorola FLIPOUT deals soon. In the meantime, you can find out more about this new square smartphone from our Motorola FLIPOUT reviews and from the video below.
