The official launch date for the projector phone, the Samsung Galaxy Beam, has been revealed – it is July.
This is according to Engadget, which states the new Samsung smartphone will reach Singapore in July. So we can expect Samsung Galaxy Beam deals in the UK soon after this date.
The first Android handset to feature an inbuilt projector, the Beam is aptly named. The DLP pico projector inside the device means you can transform your phone into a projector – which may be fun for sharing snaps with friends as well as aiding meetings when sharing one document suddenly becomes necessary. The Beam is able to project various saved images onto the big screen as well as whatever is currently being viewed, which is why it is so versatile.
With the same Super AMOLED screen as the Samsung Wave – but as big as the HTC Desire’s 3.7 inch screen – the Samsung Galaxy Beam houses some impressive features alongside the projector. There is an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash and video capable of shooting HD-quality pictures. The camera on the front lets you make video calls too.
The phone runs on the Android 2.1 platform and so comes with a range of Google goodies including Google Search and Google Maps. And if these aren’t sufficient, you can always download some more apps from the Android Market.
The Beam has social networking integration so you can stay in touch with friends more easily, streaming messages from sites like Facebook and Twitter onto the home screen. With support for both 3G and Wi-Fi onboard, accessing these sites should be straightforward.
While we’re waiting for the Beam to land, you can discover more about this Samsung projector phone in our Samsung Beam reviews.
