GSM is not dead, but it certainly is not the technology of choice for the tech conscious individual. Still, there are plenty of devices out there that are still worth taking a look at. Take the new C-series devices from Nokia, these phones allow you to carry around two SIM cards at once –and since we predict that many folks will be using these handsets as a secondary to their smart phone devices, users will be able to effectively use up to three sim cards at any given time.
First up in our list is the Nokia C2 handset. This seemingly simple smart phone is loaded to the brim with the basic features that you would expect of the 2G handset –with the bonus of having two SIM cards at once. It is cheap too, at a price of only 45 Euros; it makes for a very effective bargain.
Feature wise, most of the specs are already predictable. The handset comes with support for dual band GSM, a VGA camera, support for GPRS (no EDGE), Bluetooth, an FM radio, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and support for microSD cards of up to 32GB –so ii also works great as a music playing device. The C2 also makes use of the new hot swappable SIM card technology.
The other handset is the Nokia C1, or more specifically, the Nokia C1-00 (the C1-01 and the C1-02 are non-dual SIM devices). The C1-00 does not allow for hot-swapping of SIM cards, in fact, only one SIM can be active at a given time. Users will have an in-phone option of switching lines as needed.
The C1-00 is loaded with pretty much the same features as the C2 handset, which means that users also get an FM radio, and the 3.5mm audio jack. The C1-00 also features a nifty flashlight on top of the device –which is pretty useful when you suddenly need a quick light.
