Displays: Apple’s Retina, AMOLED and Samsung’s Super AMOLED

July 15th, 2010 by Liam

Apple-iPhone-4-3There is no doubt that Apple is pretty happy about the LED technology that they are using on the Apple iPhone 4. The new Retina Display provides users with sharp and clear visuals, but when compared to other devices, how does the iPhone 4 really hold up?

A comparative test was done by blog side Techradar in order to really see the difference on how the screens performed, and the results are actually pretty surprising. Naturally, the commonly used AMOLED touch screen is no longer on top of that food tree –Samsung’s super AMOLED is already an improvement to the idea.

But comparing the super AMOLED to the Retina Display comes with a very surprising twist: it is easier to look at the super AMOLED screen than the retina display. This is because the Retina Display is so sharp that it actually manages to be quite straining on the eyes.

However, since the super AMOLED screen has better color output and is actually cheaper, the Samsung Galaxy S is able to provide an equal graphic experience while the price tag is much lower too.

Side by side, the difference on the screens of the two devices is indiscernible to those who are not familiar with computer graphics.

Speaking of Samsung’s newest display technology, the S8500 Wave smart phone –which is the first to use the screen technology, and the Bada operating system as well, has managed to sell one million units all over the world –a big feat not only for a new smart phone, but also for the newly launched units that came with the figure. Both the Samsung S8500 Wave and the Samsung i9000 Galaxy S devices are already available on various network offerings.
