HTC Vision’s Physical Keyboard Makes All the Difference

July 7th, 2010 by Liam

htc_logoThe device is still in the rumor bin, but with HTC’s own verification that the HTC Vision is indeed a real Android smart phone and it will have a slide out physical keyboard, that is all the information we would ever need to know that this is one HTC device that smart phone users simply cannot pass up.

Having a physical keyboard is a bit of a material drag for a smart phone. Getting around the bulk, added weight and overall design is not as easy as it seems. But despite that, a keyboard makes a whole lot of difference. On a business model handset like those in BlackBerry’s smart phone series, a keyboard becomes a necessity for doing work. But there are also plenty of casual users who rely on BlackBerry devices as well, and this is because having a physical keyboard really helps.

Of course, one underlying issue here is that fact that Android handsets with physical keyboards are actually quite rare. Since the Google open source OS sony-ericsson-x10-mini-procame out, only a very small number of devices with keyboards came out that used the mobile platform. Among these are the Motorola Milestone and the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro.

Naturally, this Android device from HTC is more than just a keyboard loaded touch screen handset. The device is rumored to be sporting a new 1.5 GHz CPU from Qualcomm and a 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen display. While Qualcomm has not confirmed that actual clocked speed of the processor, it is already an accepted notion that it will be faster than today’s 1GHz Snapdragons.

The HTC Vision is currently under production and we doubt that we will be seeing a running prototype of the handset soon. At least a mock version has already been leaked in images and seeing how well HTC has incorporated the keyboard into the overall design, this makes for one interesting Android to look out for.
