It seems that even HTC will not be getting the Android Froyo early. Despite the big fuss with Google’s newest version of their open source operating system, it seems that for quite some time, the Nexus One smart phone will be the only device that will have the updated version of the operating system.
We already know that the Nexus One’s update is available and users can download that and the Adobe Flash Player 10.1 as well. For other Android smart phone owners, the wait for version 2.2 will carry on for months.
Originally, it was believed that most 2.1 Éclair handsets had already been on the line up of devices that will be getting an update made available within a week after the Nexus One update has launched. This would have made many Android fans happy as the new OS promised plenty of new features and more importantly, better performance.
The new HTC series of Android smart phones include the Desire, Legend and the Wildfire. All three sport the 2.1 Éclair and are very much compatible with the Froyo update. With the Taiwanese manufacturer being considered an industry partner to Google, it was expected that the first Android updates would be available for their handsets. In fact, it was originally announced that the HTC Desire would be getting a firmware update sometime this week –an update that never came.
HTC owners will not be the only Android fans that have been left to wait for an update. There are plenty of Android devices that have been newly launched as well. Hottest off the list are the Samsung Galaxy S and the Dell Streak –both of these phones have specs similar to the Nexus One (and better screens too). The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro are still using Android 1.6 Donut which means that they will still need a 2.1 update.
