With September not too far away, it is about time that the first mobile phones that sport the Windows Phone 7 Os are revealed. A recent series of leaks and reports have brought a couple such devices to the surface –the HTC Gold and the Nokia E7.
The initial details on the HTC Gold have been given in the leaked roadmap that gave out details on several new handsets. According to the roadmap, the HTC Gold seems to be the HTC Mondrian that has been leaked about a month ago.
So far, the exact details on the Mondrian have not been released, but it is said that he device is the first Windows Phone 7 for the Taiwanese manufacturer and that it will be sporting a processor that is faster than the recommended 1GHz. Many HTC fans will wait eagerly to discover if they can recreate with the Windows Phone 7 platform the success they achieved with Google’s Android, in handsets like the Desire and the Wildfire.
The Nokia E7 handset is also a Windows Phone 7 device. What makes this phone rather curious is the form factor. Not only does it sport a slide out keyboard, but the screen and keyboard tilt inwards allowing the user to lay down the device on a flat surface and use it as a mini-computer. It looks cute that way, but more importantly, the OS is well suited for such a style –with all the Microsoft Office mobile functions, we can see what Nokia has been planning with the OS.
Both Nokia and HTC have been making plenty of Windows Mobile phones before so it is not surprising that the two phone makers are such big supporters of the upcoming Windows Phone OS. In fact, HTC managed to break out into the international market after they were able to find support from Microsoft.
In the meanwhile, Microsoft’s development teams seem to be on top of their deadlines and projected plans as they have just moved the launch from October to September.
