July 8th, 2010 by Liam

LG-PantherThere has been plenty of WP7 related news updates recently. In order to provide readers with a clear view of what things we should be expecting from Microsoft’s upcoming mobile platform, here is a quick list of all the big news headlines of the past few days.

First off, there are now rumors that the WP7 might launch by a full year ahead of schedule. A recent leaked document reveals that the first WP7 handsets might be expected to arrive by Q3 2010 which places the launch date sometime during September. Retail stores are allegedly being told to prepare for a possible September launch date for the new OS.

In the meanwhile, the UK release for the Microsoft Kin 1 and Kin 2 handsets has been scrapped. With the focus of the software developer on the new OS, there simply is no time to delve into the Facebook-centric Kin handsets. Despite their stable Windows CE based platform, it is unlikely that the devices will ever be updated to the new WP7 OS.

Mobile phone maker LG has already made its mark in the WP7 OS development by being the first company to come up with a WP7 device. The LG Panther is so far, the only WP7 handset that has been revealed in details and also, the specs are quite impressive. Not to mention the fact that this is the only type 2 chassis announced for the OS and LG has got a very powerful combination already.

Now, there is added news that LG might be coming out with a couple of new WP7 devices: the E900 and C900 -after a recent Microsoft database revealed that the two devices will be using WP7’s custom IE browser.

Samsung’s upcoming WP7 device seems to have also been named. According to rumors, the new SGH i707 will be using the WP7 OS.
